Re: rev counter
Hi Mate
which wires do you have coming out the back? basically you need power so live (i wired mine to the fusebox using a terminal only live with the ignition on) an earth which i used a cicular crimp and bolted under the dash and the third wire goes to the negative side of the coil using a spade connector, the coil should have a + and - on it
dont know if you have already decided where to mount it but i fitted mine above the steering column looks awesome and i like being able to look at it through the steering wheel!
cheers

Re: rev counter
hi joe thanks for reply. Will try that, have made totally new dash with afromosia teak. The centre section protrudes vertically and houses mgb speedo, rev, oil, water and fuel (smiths)Houses all new flick switches and warning lights.Looks good, will look better when I get it all working. Also have aprob with my ign light, it wont go out. Alt is putting out plenty ,tried 2nd alt, same story, borrowing third alt and see what that does. regards j3k.

Check 100% that you have the correct rated bulb in the warning lamp - it must be the correct wattage (although I don't know what that is, offhand).johnnythreeknees wrote:Also have aprob with my ign light, it wont go out. Some people are like Slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.

Re: rev counter
cool sounds ace, mini's for ever!
re your ignition light staying on sound slike your battery is on its way out if youve already changed the alternator, do you have a known good battery you can swap to test?

Re: rev counter
The light should go out when the alternator voltage exceeds that of the battery. What voltage is the alternator putting out? Should be 13.6 to 14.4 volts at 3000 engine rpm. Check the warning light circuit by disconnecting it at the alternator (IND terminal) and measure the voltage between the disconnected wire and earth. Should be battery volts with the ignition on and if you earth the lead the lamp should light. Normal wattage is about 2.5 for a warning light.
