It's only been for a spin round the garden so far... hasn't seen the public highway for over 30 years (apart from on a trailer!). At last I can see the day is now in sight where it can be out on the open road under it's own power though .
I've always loved the look of the TR6 too. Must admit there have been times during this resto when I've hated the bloody thing though. Sometimes it's just best to shut the door on the project and leave it for a bit I've found so it doesn't become a chore instead of an enjoyable project.
Thanks for the comments Luxobarge. Should see it on the road early next year I hope. That should mean the project has been about 6.5 years. Perhaps I should take it over to the PC offices for a photoshoot??!
Wooden dash hasn't been refurbished yet as I plan to do this once I've had a chance to drive the car for a while. Seats will also need refurb as the foam has gone out of shape in the drivers seat.
Seat belts and a new gear knob to replace the Slazenger 1 are on my Christmas list!!
Windscreen silver finisher and front bumper done tonight. Also fitted the washer bottle bracket, bottle and new lid / washer pump.
Slowly getting there. Still need to get door mirrors, sill trim, boot badge, etc fitted.. hope to be on the road in the New Year though. Then it's time to get cracking on the VW camper again.
Well, it's been a little while since I've updated this thread. However, I'm pleased to say the TR6 passed its first MOT since 1981 last weekend, and yesterday I popped into the post office to buy a shiny new tax disc. So come 1st May, we'll be legally on the road again.
The drive to the MOT garage was great fun. A mix of apprehension - not knowing if we'd make it or not! And sheer exhilaration of knowing I'd stripped and rebuilt this car single handed. Only one or two minor problems: fuel gauge only reading 1/4 full, and the speedo packing up after 5 miles. The speedo was just down to dodgy new parts (ferrule at the end of the cable not crimped properly). Driving under the A1 flyover let me exploit the full effect of the sound coming from the twin stainless tailpipes
Just a few minor jobs left to do now (if fitting a hood could be considered to be minor - bearing in mind the current 'drought' conditions in the uk).
Now the Mrs is keen for me to get cracking on with the VW camper resto!

All set for the MOT. Managed to get there and back between downpours
And finally after 6.5 years of every other (ish) Sunday working on the car, we finally have the Tax, Test, and Insurance to get on the road from 1st May... weather permitting.
