Retro Fitting Traction Control into a Car with ABS?

Is it possible to install traction control into a car
which already has a functioning abs system?

Has anybody done this? If so how has it been done.

Mitsuru, you clearly know your way around a circuit. Design and build your own. This way it'll be cheaper, you'll know that the assembly work's been done properly, you'll become something of a star turn in the world of modifying retro/neo-classic cars of the late 20th Century and imagine the satisfaction that's to be had in succeeding. Which you will.

A few years back, a fella by the name of Ian Hawkins devised his own Linux-scored interface for OBD2 adaptors, he was running a car for which no proprietary applications were affordable (main stealer only - S.T.A.R. readers) or, in the case of some supposedly suitable products; stable.
So he sat down and designed his own application for Android OS which is available as a free version with much of its versatility intact. The paid version only costs a few Quid, works with every modern car to which I've connected it and suits a cheap adaptor that costs only £20 at most when that amount wouldn't buy you ten minutes at the dealership on their STAR adaptor. (Other makers of overly complex modern cars may have acronyms all to themselves, that's just one of the systems that's fully compatible with his products). Read about the above right here.

So, there you have it. Do likewise with some aftermarket traction control management system, there's a market for this stuff!

Bugger I have a nokia e75 which runs on symbian, I like proper buttons
rather than touch screens so I haven't upgraded to a new phone.

As regards an after market system, I was thinking of using parts from a
later model Chrysler which had traction control fitted.

I can't help thinking that if it were as simple as pulling donor parts off a later model, every track hound would be doing it that way.

^^^ WHS^^^ and I have a degree in Instrument and Control Engineering and spend the cold winter months surrounded by electronics stuff!

No disrespect to John, but it's certainly an area I would shy away from unless I had a lot of experience with the systems!!

OCO - don't track hounds awitch TC off? I thought that was the first thing one does when hooning round a circuit?

Mitsuru - I'm sure it's possible one way or another as discussed above, but I know if I were you I'd get the thing running and MoTd before I started dicking around with stuff like this. Two of my cars have TC and I've NEVER used it, in the Jag the only time I've ever pressed the button was in the snow where switching it off actually enabled me to get more traction to get out of a "stuck" situation.

Over on the SAAB Forum, where I used to dwell, folks were positively encouraged to AVOID the T/C fitted 9000 - using the ABS to apply the brake to the spinning wheel?

It was while going through the wiring diagrams of the neon and the
voyager that the question popped in the brain.

Especially after remembering how Jimbo (who has the v6 manual
transmission version) had problems with traction due to the amount
of torque the v6 puts out even with a very light foot.

As the engine and transmissions were designed for bigger heavier
vehicles, it is no wonder that traction in a smaller lighter car could be
a problem.

Hence this thread to bounce the idea around. I can supply pdf files of
the wiring diagrams for people to look at if they want to pm me with
an email address.

I have TC on my voyager, People rob the saab unit for projects because it uses the spark cut method not the abs braking kind,
Also the one i posted a link to is also a spark cut unit.
If you got to http://www.trigger-wheels.com you can buy the toothed wheels you then need two pick up sensors and a circuit to compare the two readings plus lots of witchcraft i dont understand,there is plenty of google info about this, just type DIY traction control.
