Cherry Bomb!!
Cherry Bomb!!
Heres another one for discussion. My Rover 3500s is currently completely standard. I'm considering changing the back box to a cherry bomb and the air box for two K&N cones. This is purely to bring out the best rumbles from the V8. I've done a bit of reading and the Cherry bomb seems like an affordable way to go, but has anyone any experiences?

Cherry bomb? God there is a name I have not heard in ages. I had one on my Lotus sunbeam and it sounded awesome. You could fit a pair of bombs on a straight through system, now that would sound awesome! My Dad put the plugleads on his SD1 3500 wrong a few years back and it blew a hole in the front box, sounded evil but he decided to replace it with a standard system

I had a V8 Trams-am that I fitted with cherry bombs some years ago – all I say is at the time it seemed like a good idea but the noise soon wore thin and I reverted to standard with much relief.
Never play chess with a pigeon. It will knock all the pieces over, S*#t on the board and then strut around pretending it won.

Supertrapps are the new cherry bomb, you can add or remove the dampers to change and tune the note or take them out completely for the drag strip.

I've always had reservations about the supertrap systems. A great big plate over the tailpipe outlet!
David Vizard really trashed them in his A-series tuning bible.
Cherry bombs sound cool, but with all changes that make inlet/exhaust more free flowing it's a good idea to check that the carbs/injection system are adjusted accordingly.
I know. Hello Granny. Here's an egg. What we do is......

I assume with more than double the capacity and twice the cylinders your Rover should sound amazing

I've got to say, my only (highly situational) complaint with the Lexus is how quiet & unimpressive it is... I've been trying to drive out of car parks & had people walking 2 feet ahead of me unaware I was there! Rage-driven acceleration feels fantastic but there's none of the thunder to let those around me know just how pissed off I've become. Maybe I should fit a switchable flap in the exhaust somewhere to help encourage a more throaty note?

…that's why Allegro will look as good 5 years from now as it does today.

Many owners of Mk1 and 2 Discoveries remove the catalytic converter and replace with a straight section. Again, check the effect on fuelling. Gives even an early 200TDi a nice rumble.
I think that the cat has to go back on again at MOT time though. And of course it stops that expensive cat from getting nicked.
