filler

hi all gonna be doing some filling on wifes mini soon and wanted to use a different filler, i usually use the stuff from halfords and tryed a couple of the upol ones but its quite thick and draggy, when i watch the programmes on telly theres always seems fairly sloppy and easily spread anyone know what it is and where you get it? cheers FOGGO

The stuff I was using last week is rather like that soft margarine.

UPol Multifunction Galv X

I bought it from a local panel factor, but suspect it's available nationwide!! It sands easily, but I have to admit, I liked the version that's in Halfords for much of my recent work - where curves had to be built up - as the Galv X was just too sloppy! However, as a "finish" filler, I have no complaints!

thats the sort of stuff i want, no major dents just surface inperfections to smooth over, galv x is it for galvanised metal and is it ok on normal steel? cheers FOGGO

I did read the details on the tin when I bought it about six weeks ago, but can't remember specifics. However, I did buy it for normal steel (though it was etch primed!) and have used it on glassfibre and it seems fine. I have about a golf ball-sized bit left now - and it will probably be dead when I want to use it - the last stuff (U-Pol too) was earlier in the year!

Hello there

Sorry for being late to this thread. I use U-pol 'Easy # 1' For the bulk of filling and shaping - It is rough and ready, and not good for fine work, but it cuts down really easy it light which means that it will stick to vertical faces. For a final spread once the repair is up to shape I drag a coat of 'Topstop' or Topstop gold'
Cut the filler with 80grt and the stopper with 120grt.
