Removing a CD/radio unit from a modern Corsa?

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Removing a CD/radio unit from a modern Corsa?

#1 Post by kevanf1 »

I need to get the stereo head unit out of a double DIN fascia in a modern Vauxhall (2004) Corsa. I have tried the widely suggested bent wire coat hanger method. They go in, they click into place but the unit will still not come out!!! Any ideas? My daughter has an 80 mile round trip 4 days a week to uni and it won't be much fun with no radio to listen to let alone not being able to listen to traffic news. Yes, the code has been lost and guess who disconnected the battery.... ??? Yours truly. I have to get the serial number off the radio unit to then go and request a new code at a cost of £25 from Vauxhall. I know why I prefer classic cars!!!

Any help gratefully received.

Sorry I can't help (Good luck) but I share the above sentiments. I hope it doesn't involve taking the engine out to get at the back of the dash   :!: JPB is a bit of a whizz with car radios  :!:

I have never been able to understand why they did this with car radios. It's not even as though the tools to remove them cost mega bucks so it's not going to make them money this way. It's just plain inconvenient. JPB? I'll see if I can PM him/her...

You don't need to pay Vauxhall for the code - there's plenty of web sites out there where you can get it for free. You'll stillneed the serial number though!
Some people are like Slinkies - they serve no useful purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.

Ah, I have been told by the guy at the Vauxhall dealer that for this particular year a lot of the radio units had to be recoded in a mass factory recall. Which is why they need the serial number as it may not be the original. Does this ring true? Would one of these internet code sites be able to give me the right code in this case? What comeback might I have if they give me the wrong code?

With the radio code if you call up the local vauxhall dealer they normally just give it to you especially if they have some record of the car such as they were the supplying dealer or its been serviced there. Last week I bought a Renault Scenic Rx4 from an auction and that didnt have the code but I called up Toomeys in basildon and they just gave it to me as they had serviced it last. might save a couple of quid.
