Triumph Herald
I have been offered a Triumph Herald and will be going to see it on Friday. Apparantly the clutch is gone and it has not been used for a few years. What nasties should I be looking for and what is it worth?

Re: Triumph Herald
Is it a saloon or a convertible? If the latter, make sure it's genuine.
Make sure the chassis is rust free - the inner sides of the main legs rust badly around the diff where it's hardest to see. Also check that it's straight. Terrible panel gaps might be a giveaway, but they were always pretty awful anyway.
Bodywork - most rust is easy to see. The rear tubs go badly behind the doors and all the way up the rear arches. Ideally remove the side trim panels and look in the wells at the sides where you might just find big holes.
Good replacement bonnets are expensive, easy to see if it needs work.
Less to worry about mechanically as everything is available and cheap. Engine can be scrap if the thrust washers have fallen out - check to see if the crankshaft clonks backwards and forwards by 5mm. Check by levering the lower pulley forwards with a big screwdriver then watching while someone presses and releases the clutch with the engine running.

Hhahah, true story. Though congrats on the Triumph (that reminds me of a TV series quote, where one guy said 'Great, you're right on time to witness my triumph' and the other says 'Cool, you got a Triumph, can I take for a spin?'Willy Eckerslyke wrote:Terrible panel gaps might be a giveaway, but they were always pretty awful anyway.

Didn't know that Harry Potter had been televised, or that they'd changed the words.JK Rowling wrote:Voldemort turned abruptly to see who had spoken. "Finally, you've come! Right on time to witness my triumph!" Voldemort laughed, extremely amused, but he became serious when he saw Albus Dumbledore coming towards him.
