Car insurance renewal time!!1

#1 Post by Mitsuru »

Just called my car insurance company 'Tescos' and had a quote for my renewal.

I have been with Tescos Insurance for years but after the quote I shopped around.

Last year it cost me about £600 for the year fully comprehensive.
This years renewal quote fo the same car with same details as before
is now well over £800.
Well car insurance across the board has gone up by 40%

I called 2 companies suggested on the Yorks Yanks website.

Adrian Flux £810+fully comprehensive.

Graham Sykes £585 fully comprehensive, legal fees included, and breakdown.
(might be less awaiting for quote without breakdown built in as I already have that!)

A reminder to me and others.
Every time you get an insurance quote they do a credit check on you and too
many chredit checks is bad for your credit rating!

Too many credit checks that come back "computer says no" on expensive chuckie purchases might well be bad for your credit rating, but shopping for insurance quotes every year isn't a bad thing and is far better than falling into the loyalty trap by sticking with the same insurer who'll invariably shaft you once they have you in their net. ;)

I go through Performance Direct - they always seem to find a reasonable deal. I've two reasonably "risky" sports cars with them - both under £200 each fully comp for the year with recovery included... though you're right: that's up a fair bit on last year....

I've just had my 999cc Starlet through - nearly £600? No way. Try Peter James for a quote and Hagerty also - i've used both in the past and been happy with the premium to cover / service balance

My 1970 TR6 and 1971 Rover P6V8 both unlimited miles, agreed value,EU breakdown etc, dont need to be garaged... £190pa the pair on a classic car multicar policy.
My recenly bought 1999 Jag XK8,being classed a modern classic and a high ins group, cant be included in the classic multicar policy, but same benefits, and its £280pa,,both policies with a named driver.
Both policies with Footman James.
You have to ask for the classic multicar policy if you want more than 1 covered.
My current fleet!
1971 S2 Rover P6V8 auto,PAS,leather,webasto,14" rostyles,in White/huntsman.
My daily driver since 1999.
1970 Triumph TR6pi,original UK car in Damson.
1968 S1 Rover P6V8 auto,2 owner/43k miles,Arden with sandalwood leather.

@ Mitsuru:
Just a thought here Aron, but Eagle Star (now a Zurich company and T/A Zurich) used to be the place to insure for anyone with a notifiable, health-related condition that must be declared for insurance and licensing purposes.
Give them a try, my three year licence didn't phase them when I insured cars there. ;)

My thoughts exactly, that's with me holding a full licence for 17 years, 6 years no claims and with no points (ever). No thanks Churchill, oh, no, rather than oh, yes...

A copy of Tescos insurance quote came in the post!
They said £845, but neglected to mention an instalment charge for paying monthly.
The instalment charge was always included previously.
So they were expecting me to fork out £927.66 in total!!!!
Dafinately time to change insurance companies, bye bye tescos insurance!
