A mechanical Speedo Question

I was wondering if I have to fit a different speedo into my car.

What am I going to need to fit a speedo cable driven Speedometer
into the car.
The space for the for the speed sensor is in t output side of the
transmission.
The original which was a digital one (different ecu from what I will be
using)
went into the long drive shaft on the front wheel drive car.



The picture above shows 2 drive shafts which which the car could use.
One has the part of the transmission (unbolted for this picture) which
would normally hold hold the Speed sensor.

I still have the original neon speed sensor and possibly a spare to take
the gear/cog off.
The new engine came out of a voyager which the dashboard ran all the
instruments off a can bus system from the Engine Control Unit, the
Neon's didn't.

So please tell me what I can use here and not cost much my wallet is
empty and I'm down to a few quid for this bit!

Also I had bid and won a replacement Smiths Speedo on ebay, as dad
dropped something heavy on mine and not said what!
But the seller hasn't claimed his payment and not responded to my
emails, stating payment at my end completed and taken from my bank
account. Yet I have received and email (automated/or not) demanding
payment!

Suggestions please!

You should have a look at this: http://www.greengauges.com/ and see if they can offer you a compatible kit of speed sensor and gauge for your car.
Are you sure that your ECU doesn't need a signal from it's origional (or a compatible) speed sensor for other things? (cruise control, possibly even fuelling)

I haven't got that kind of money!!

My memory on this isn't good but where and what did the maestro/maxi have theirs?
was it off the driveshaft inside the gearbox?

As I was thinking of trying something alnog that line.
Does anyone know which cars had the speedo cable running off the driveshaft on the fwd cars?

Can't speak for the Maestro, but on the Maxi the speedo drive screwed into the rear of the gearbox, just to the left of the final drive, and was geared off the third motion shaft.

I've been picking Jimbo's brains.
I posed the question what used the same gearbox but with a speedo cable,
rather than an electronic speed sensor.

One of the options that was suggested was the Dodge Omni, which I then
remembered it's called the Talbot Horizon over here in the UK.
It was a mater of a few emals and calls for prices.
The dealer wanted £100 plus tax (20%) and couldn't tell me if full unit, or just
one part!

Eventually, I came across a Talbot owners club forum with details of a parts
supplier. His name is Colin Hill I sent mail containing the above pictures.
He said he would look and email me back. He did with the pictures below his words.

I do indeed have the part from a Horizon Automatic and attach 2 pictures.
Size of aperture for the fitting is 32mm.
If interested £20 including postage.
Can accept Paypal if you have it,or cheque or cash.
