I remember reading an article in PC about the build date having an influence on this but can not find
Which copy it was in. Can anyone help with either the issue no. Or advise on how to go about checking
The ...

Re: Two year MOTs

I am personally against two year testing. I am a tester & a classic car owner & although i,like many of you maintain my cars with my own & others safety in mind unfortunately some owners don't.
A good example of this was a 1947 Vauxhall 14 that i Mot'd the other day. This had been bought by the ...

Re: Spraying fibreglass

I have painted several fibreglass panels & used an etch primer with no problems (two years on & still perfect) but you do need to be sure all signs of silicon from moulding process is removed or you will get a reaction the same as any other silicon issue. Underseal would not be suitable as you say ...

Re: Peugeot 306 Cabriolet

As above but also the roof will not work if windows inop so check them first. You have to have handbrake on too, so is brake warning light working?. There is also a micro switch in the roof on o/s by b post under the rubber seal, this senses when roof is open or closed & is a common fault ...

Re: joining brake pipes?

hmm, my local garage quoted me £120 to replace all my brake lines. i'll keep an eye out and see what that tool goes for. If it goes up much more it may work out cheaper to get it done "properly"
thanks for the advice all.

If they only want that much to replace them I would let them do it. As ...

Re: petrol cap problems ?

Probably a stupid question but have you tried the cap straight on to existing filler neck. I can't remember exactly but thought the Marina cap had internal flange already. Some cars such as the Minor & Austin 1100 had external fitting caps which needed the adaptor to be fitted. Just a thought but I ...

Re: ford escort

There are a lot of different items that could be at fault. If you are getting fuel as you say then you need to check to see if you are getting a spark. Remove a plug lead from the plug then either use a spare s/plug or take the plug out of the car & put it in the end of the lead, rest the thread part ...

Re: Lead Replacement

That is very interesting i am in the trade myself(moderns mostly) but did not ever have cause to consider the alloy head & seats issue. Makes sense when you think about it but useful to know for the future. Many thanks for all input especially John & Terry seems to be creating some interest too.

Re: Lead Replacement

I didn't realise the P6 was ok without additive. The engine runs sweet since i re-shimmed tappets last year with no pinking or running on. Thanks for the info & also confirming my thoughts about gismos.
