Today whilst with a customer on road test. One of the jobs was squeeky front pads - new pads. At first every thing is fine then as the customer applied the brakes - squeak piggy squeak.

Then on the way back the customer tells me that he is actually making the squeaking noise in his throat. Hes an amateur ventriloquist. I needed a Gottle of Gear after that I laughed so much me false teeth fell out.

Many years ago when my 36 year old daughter was 18 months old I was driving down the road and could hear a hissing sound. I thought the servo was leaking. After a long while of poking around. I turned engine off to check reserve vacuum. A few pumps no vacuum. Still hissing. My daughter was sucking on a bottle. This has turned into a family joke. I had me own choppers then and Doc Martin Boots and a pork pie hat.

I am just concluding a mini-restoration for a customer. Went to fire up last night and the engine ran for 20 seconds and cut out, accompanied by a right squealing noise. "Tight so-and-so", I thought. Bolton to Yeadon with 20 seconds fuel left is cutting it a bit fine. Anyway, threw in a couple of gallons from the cans, let it fuel up and fired the engine. The squealing was still there.... Tracked it down into the engine bay and found the washer bottle pump whirring away on an empty bottle. Dodgy switch.

The original screen wash pump on my car made a horrendous noise for such a small thing. Who needs a car horn. The screen wash bottle and pump was not of good quality. The replacement pump £5 is much better.
Its like Rolls-Royce forgot about the screen wash and went to the local accessory shop I brought the cheapest kit they could find.

They fitted the bottle over the exhaust manifold. And of course the bottles melted on some cars.

My design is fit the car with a roof rack and have a toilet cistern. Open the window pull the chain and the water cleans the screen. Add one of those blue things in the water to kill any bugs on the glass.

There is a mod which puts the bottle under the wing.

Fair play to VAG though, they've addressed this apparent shortcoming and indeed, my MK7 was supplied new with a dead hooker in the spare wheel well. Boy did that take some explaining the night I had to call out the RAC to mend a puncture.
