Beford CA front shocks

#1 Post by fordfan »

Does anybody know if the front shock absorbers fitted to a MK1 Bedford CA were fitted to any other vehicles? My motor factor doesn't list CA's anymore but I can't believe that Bedford would use a shock absorber made exclusively for the CA. The ones I have fitted are made by Lockheed and have the numbers 8828804 then under that number is 08??? 14B26 ( sorry couldn't read it all ) the dimensions are 17 inches top to bottom fully open 12.5 inches fully closed the main body of the shock is 7.5 inches long and has a circumference of about 5.25 inches/ diameter 1.75 inches this is the critical bit as I have tried shocks from a later Bedford CF and they are too fat and foul the spring other wise they fit ok the fixings are of the threaded shaft type at either end not an eye and the nut if they were metric would be probably M10 surely there must be something out there that has the same shocks as nobody seems to have originals for my camper anymore!

Ok drawn a blank on that one , so can anybody tell me where I might track down a set of the correct dampers?

Two minutes with Google came up with this old "listing":

So perhaps you can find a suitable Hillman shock absorber somewhere?

Are your current ones rusted through or just weeping / lose? You could have them repaired

This lot seem to specialise in bike dampers but it has to be worth an ask.

Another thought, would it be worth giving a company like Dormobile a ring? They might have spares for their older models.
