I'm on farcebook to chat with the family and friends I don't live locally to. I get the odd friend request from people I have never heard of but always just hit the block button. It's the same with some groups I administer. They are for very specific demographics but you still get spammers chancing it.

I'm afraid I am one of the remaining few that doesn't use this site, or intends to in the future.

it spells trouble I think.........

Hallelujah!

I'm so glad that this isn't just my take on the whole phenomenon! It's reassuring to know that others are out there. I may now go and join one of the many anti-facebook groups - of which I'm told there are several on facebook  :? - in order to get properly wound up about this subject.

Yes, Terry, Rich and other fb victims users, I get that it has its uses but it doesn't perform any function that cannot be found elsewhere in cyberspace or by picking up the telephone, calling at someone's house or going to a local car club meet.
And no, it isn't an age thing, I'm only 50 and rely heavily on Skype, 'cos that's all sweetness and light, isn't it?

I can see the point of f/b, but I'm another that has no need - or interest - in it. I keep my more interesting photos on flickr and use emails to keep in contact with friends (I hate phones!). I read somewhere that nw "everyone" is on f/b, the younger users have moved to more "trendy" places and left f/b to "old fuddy duddies" (silver surfers etc). OTOH, my friend uses f/b to keep up with what two (of three) children are doing - they are "down south" at, or just left, uni, so don't have time to phone home with their news!

When I was a student for the first time, back in the first few years of something called the "nineteen eighties" :? , I didn't have time to keep in touch with the north, my family or in fact anything related to home but in my case for "didn't have time" read "couldn't be fashed!"

That reminds me of when I was at Teesside in the early 90s. A neighbour's son had also gone there to do Computer Science and he was a typical geek! His mother was starting with a nerve problem - the outer covering has worn away and she's in pain all the time (but does a lot of charity work!). His father appeared at our house one weekend (I came home at weekends to do the chores that Ma couldn't do - and get my washing done!) and asked if I'd seen the lad. I hadn't, so he said he was a bit annoyed that the lad hadn't checked on his mother for a month or two. He then said he'd sent him a phone card (remember those?) and a note:

"Phone your mother you bu**er"

While my friend's kids use f/b, it is to send messages to their friends and not really for their parents!
