Front wing side repeaters. Required?

One of Freddies unusual quirks is that he does not have side lights on the wings (most of his siblings from that year do, it would appear).

He's an '82 registered vehicle. I've been told that the side repeater requirement didn't come in until '86, so i won't need to retrofit side repeaters. Can anyone verify that?

Yes, that is correct, vehicles first used before 1st April 1986 do not need side repeaters. Information taken from the MoT manual, downloaded from the VOSA website. A very useful reference document.

Pete is quite correct, but if you plan to drive in Italy at some future time, be aware that side repeaters are compulsory there regardless of the vehicle's age.

IIRC!
That only applies to Italian registered vehicles!
Visiting vehicles, especially classics,do not need to get them fitted if they were not fitted when the vehicle was manufactured!

I was fined for that very thing in 1996, which was how I became aware of this requirement. Maybe they relaxed the rules since but either way, handing over that number of currency units still hurts when I think about it! It was hundreds of thousands, as Lira hadn't yet become a sub unit of the €uro. Only about £80 in real money but a bit of a shocker all the same. :(

All the screamers in the world won't change that. ;)
