Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)
The government is to change the law to give local authorities the power to stage motor races on public roads.
Prime Minister David Cameron made the announcement on a visit to a new Williams F1 team engineering centre.
The government has conducted a consultation on the issue.
It is currently a criminal offence to promote or take part in a race or trial of speed between motor vehicles on a highway or, in Scotland, on a public road.
The proposal is to give local authorities the powers to suspend speed limits and some traffic regulations, in certain conditions.
Speaking at the Williams facility in Oxfordshire, Mr Cameron said the move would be "great" for motorsport and would mean "more races, more events and more money coming into our country".
So we might also get stuff like the Isle of Mann TT race over here as well as F1 cars down the mall and up the A1(M)?
Remember the Birmingham Super Prix Personally I would suggest avoiding London, as it is already over crowded. I'd suggest somewhere more central or an area in need of a bit of money.
Rules exist for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men.
MG Midget 1500, MGB GT V8, Morris Minor Traveller 1275, MG Midget 1275 & too many bicycles.
No as it would cost too much and if they are going to need to redo the roads to comply
may as well have a bit more space and a place where the roads need redoing anyway!
So my sugestions would be up north
Sunderland, Washington, Hartlepool, Hull, Berwick, Shields maybe Newcastle and Gateshead
Actually it would include races of all types so not just the f1 lot.
Classic and vintage time trials, hill climbs and rallys etc so moving this thread to off topic section isn't right!
Anyone heard of the Copnhagen Grand Prix? www.chgp.dk/en/
There for 2012, great to see some genuine retro motors being pushed hard on the public roads
When i was 15 , i was racing up and down "my" lane, where we lived .I went round this blind bend ,flat...and the new village copper on a Honda CD200 noddy bike was coming the other way...Unfortunately we crashed head on..he came off, ripping the knees out of his trousers... I was on my 100cc kart.. Good thing was, he never told my Dad..
I remember the Birmingham Super Prix. I went to every one. Fantastic. The starting grid markings were on the Bristol Road for years. Basically killed off by the 'do gooders' and the fact it wasn't in London!
