Hello All, I topped up the rear axle on my 1963 ford consul classic last week and now its leaking oil all over the offside rear brake, I have removed the halfshaft this afternoon and can see that the bearing has a rubber covering on each side, I was expecting to find an oil seal of some sort on the plate which holds the half shaft in but now I realise that the bearing itself is the oil seal so a new bearing is needed, there is a collar which holds the bearing on to the halfshaft which I expect was fitted in the forge of some ancient Norse god never to be removed by a mere mortal such as me , so my question is this , do I heat the collar up and knock it off whilst hot or do I cut it off with a grinder or will it come off cold? I haven't tried anything yet until I hear from somebody who has had experience of one of these but first thing in the morning one way or another its coming off, any ideas?
