Spot / fog lights

OK so I have this desire to put a pair of the above on the Minx. The car is 1955 vintage (some years older than me)

Can anyone suggest what might have been fitted to it back then? I appreciate anything within reason could go on as obviously accessories can be added at any time but I'm a bit anal when it comes to things like this and just wondered if anybody could suggest what, for instance, a dealer might have fitted if they had been asked to supply and fit when the car was new. Pics/images/e-bay links welcome.

Am I right to think that back then one spot and one fog was often the preferred choice?

Thanks in advance

I'd look for a Fog and Spot like these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-ORIGI ... 1049294616

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Raydy ... 1055601046

I'm not sure if these were around in the 50s or not, but there's always the good old Lucas ones

Plus they do have some natty covers to go with the Lucas ones :)

This is my (later) Singer Vogue.
I have a picture of the car in 1966 and it has 2 spots similar (may be the same ones) to what was fitted when i picked it up (pic taken after removing it from where it had been previously stored by the previous owner)

I would go with the other, earlier lucas spots as your car is earlier. Mine are lucas ones however.

I had a set of Raydots like the ones Rob listed that I bought in 1970, so I suspect they are too modern (and weren't all that great either!).

Have a quick Google for 1955 Hillman Minx and check the images, there are a few pictures with early lights - and some with newer ones like Kevin's! I have to admit that I didn't see many cars with extra lights in the fifties though - many (like my father) considered such things as a waste of money; especially as they had gone through the war without decent lighting. My dear father used to drive on sidelights quite a lot in the fifties and sixties. I think it was reliving his "glory days" and practising for his TA adventures but I suspect he'd say he was saving the battery!

I have an old 60s/70s probably blue dot spot out in the garage, one day I may have something old enough to fit it too, the Triumphs just look a bit too new for them IMO.
