I know it's an age old problem/question,

Is there anyway to trace a classic car?

A work colleague of mine is trying to trace an e-type that he owned 40 years ago, I know the trick with DVLA vehicle enquiry which I've done and it shows its current status as sorn. So we're assuming it's still out there somewhere?

Is there a way of finding it? He'd really just like see it again really and know it's where abouts.

It's a red 4.2 e-type registration RAB 180F

I have used the v888 form to get information about cars I have owned, it might be the previous owners best shot at tracing it.

I knew you could request information from the dvla about previous owners of a car that you own but you had to be the registered keeper. I never realised you could ask for information, I guess this is mainly for people involved in incidents with other cars etc.

I used the v888 form to compile a bit of history for selling mine or researching some of
my old cars to see what happened to them. I found that the first car I ever owned was
still registered in my name 15+ years after I donated it to the college I was working at,
and when I contacted college they said they didn't have any record of the vehicle being
in their possetion!! SO I had to submit a form/letter to confirm that it was donated to
the college and posibly scrapped in the mid 90's or I would have been fined!

You could try contacting the owners' clubs, but ratty E-types could be bought for beer money 40 years ago, so it probably doesn't still exist.

It's on SORN rather than untaxed so it almost certainly exists somewhere

Unless someone just needs the SORN to keep an identity alive in case they happen to acquire a different example that comes with none. Morally and legally questionable of course but it's common practice.

Who said it was ratty? Although it may well be now but then that's what we're trying to find out!

The reg. doesn't work, but I'm not sure that field is always updated or works in the search. There is a comment to that effect on the site.
