Manufacturing cylinder heads
Manufacturing cylinder heads
I'm sure there's a good number on here know already how cylinder heads are produced. I've learnt that evaporating foam is used. What was used before evaporating foam was invented?
Re: Manufacturing cylinder heads
Green sand (sand and clay) and the cored parts will be sand with a stronger binder ..(sodium silicate.. starch.. clay etc) Alloy heads are more likely cast in plaster than foam .

So foam is the new version of lost wax casting.
We still have all our parts cast the old fashioned way with wood patterns and sand casting.
