Hi,
Has anyone had to replace the fuel gauge sender unit on their Triumph Spitfire with the after-market version? The old and new units are visibly different and when located in the same position as the original the after-market version gives a reading 1/4 full when the tank is empty. When I mentioned this to the supplier he said 'you have to rotate it a little' or words to that effect, and that they are the only type available. On looking at what other suppliers such as Rimmer and Moss are supplying they appear from the pictures to be the same. I'm not very good with Photobucket so the pic probably wont be reteivable:


Has any fitted one of these? any suggestions?

If you wire it up out of the tank and move the float through it's full range does the gauge read from empty to full? If it does then all you should have to do is bend the arm slightly.

Another example of the stunning quality of new repro parts for classic cars on the market these days - you can't expect it to work properly first time without some fettling!

If wot Terry said doesn't work, then send it back for a full refund, as it's not fit for purpose.

Thanks guys I'll bear that in mind. The car's still off the road while the seats are rebuilt, so the fuel tank is still not filled properly - time will tell!
