new scam to steal your car

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

new scam to steal your car

#1 Post by Mitsuru »

This needs a repost onto this and other forums as it will not just be the
european gangs that will be doing this!
big paul of Yorks Yanks Car Club Forum wrote:Some of you guys may well be aware of a new scam being used by Eastern
European gangs to steal our cars.

Scam 1) Leave a baby seat with a blanket over it at the side of the road,
or even a life like doll strapped in, this will cause most people,
especially women to stop, you will then be beaten, raped and have your
car stolen.

Scam 2) An egg is thrown at your windscreen, a natural reaction is to
spray and use your wipers, this causes smearing and can reduce your
vision by up to 90%, so you stop, well you know what happens next.

This comes from a reliable source, please spread the word.

If you see anything like this, finish your journey and call 999

Aye, the old ones are always the best.

I believe that a good way to ascertain whether the occupant of the child seat is real or a lifesize replica would be to accelerate toward the seat, clipping it with the very edge of the front bumper as you pass it. With careful aiming, this should send the seat airborne so, when it lands, the difference is that the fake baby will shatter into sharp strands of plastic and possibly a pool of realistic wee will come out if it lands on its back. You won't see strands of shattered plastic if the baby was real so you'll then know that it's OK to stop and offer assistance.

Yes, but even if you drive a green Simca 1301 or a shagged out Cortina with a rattly camshaft and one odd door, it would still be a better way to get home than trying to sledge down the road on a baby seat, after you throw away the fake baby of course. :D
