BARN FIND RILEY

Hi, new to the board but hope to be around a bit.

5 minutes after explaining to my son that the mini I'm currently welding was to be my last project and a keeper our friend called round and asked if I wanted another "project" as a garage was about to be demolished.

Anyway, I have now pulled a sad 1954 Riley RME out of the garage where it has sat seemingly for 30 years :D Log book and key are hopefully following very shortly if the nice old gent can find them.

BUT......having put the registration into the DVLA checker, it comes up with the car, correct year, engine size, colour, but shows the car as being licensed until april, and states licencse due to expire.

Obviously it has not been taxed or sorned in years, does anyone know if this is a DVLA glitch or something more sinister.

Thanks for the input

If the details you read are correct then I would get on to dvla immediately and explain to them the car has been stored in a garage for however long, and to investigate the person who last "taxed" the car.

It could also be that the car has been sorned?, do the check again to make sure of what you've read, as sometimes it can be "read wrong".

and print off the info to add to your docs (if correct) as and when you receive them.

Might also be an idea to contact the Riley Register to see what info they may have on the car.

Mal.

Thanks,
Will try and get the docs before I do anything, a few days more shouldn't matter. Car is definately showing as Licencse due to expire, rather than Sorn Due, and giving date of liability as 1- 4 -11, I have a few vehicles and the Sorned ones show as Sorn, and the licensed ones show as Licencsed, but I doubt this ever got Sorned when the rules came in.

I thought though, that I once read in PC that SOME cars were showing as licencsed even though they had been off the road for years, not sure though, it just seems slightly familiar in the recesses of my memory. If not, there could be a little trouble ahead........

Maybe the registration was sold off?

Hi,

Crossed my mind that the reg has been sold, but if so it is sitting on another riley of exactly the same year, colour and engine capacity which seems a bit unlikely.... though not impossible. Thats why I'm hoping for the log book before contacting DVLA.

What if they are about to clear the registry of vehicles that have not been noted, moded on the system for so long that they think the car could have been scrapped and documents lost.
Once removed from the system and the attached registration number could then be sold on to creat revenew .
