Classic cars for tall persons

Hi I'm new to this forum, and looking to buy a classic car hopefully this year. I'm after something a bit sporty and excellent condition for less than £12k. The main issue is I'm 6'5" so finding something I fit in is difficult. I've owned 5 mk3 capri's previously, would like a mk1, but also would like to know what else I can fit in. I would like a TR6, GT6, maybe a TVR Chimaera or an old Porsche, but I don't think these are big enough headroom or legroom wise. Any suggestions anyone?
Dan

Rover P6?
Quite sporty in 3500S form, well within your budget but values are starting to climb so a safe investment.

MGBs have a lot of legroom and the GT has a taller windscreen than the open version. It's fashionable to knock MGBs (They have some shortcomings but it's a not at all bad car to drive; very easy and flexible in fact) but you won't find an easier car to own and a lot of people own them. It's certainly worth a look and if you come across a GT V8 model, they really are a lot of car for the money (If it's had an SD1 gearbox fitted, so much the better).

As you mention the GT6 something to bear in mind on these if you look at one (and the rest of the small chassis Triumphs for that matter: Herald, Vitesse, Spitfire) is that they all share a reach adjustable steering column. With the wheel set close to the dash my Vitesse is very cramped and uncomfortable ( I'm 6'2" ) but with it set out a few inches there's bags of legroom. I think there's around 8" of in/out adjustment but I don't know if this column is used on the TR cars.

I'd agree. As a longtime MGC GT owner at 6ft tall with a long back, I've never had a problem with headroom - despite the C having a higher floorpan than the B due to the torsion bar front suspension. I'd recommend one without a sunroof though.

I've never consciously looked inside the footwell of a C (I did look at a GT that was for sale
many years ago….not bad shape for just £2495) but I never knew the floorpan was higher (I know they have torsion bar front suspension and 15" wheels). I must have a look when I next see a C

A little bit of a curve ball....how about either a Porsche 944 - my son is 6'6" and fits fine in my car....or alternatively a Porsche 928...if you can live with the fuel costs.
