Larkins latest piece got me thinking about my own preference of classic- why do we choose what we do? What drives us? My perchant is for a car I've never owned, a MKII Capri.

Let me explain: Growing up in the '70s with a Dad having Cortinas you'd think I'd be into them. Best mates Dad was Sales Manager at the local Leyland dealers and had a string of Marinas, Itals, Princesses and Ambassadors - so why not them?

My own first car was a Hillman Avenger, why not them ?
Yes, I've owned Capris, I sill have a 1973 MKI GT and have had three MKIII's - a 19880 1.6S, a 1984 2.0 S and a 1986 2.8 Special - why then do I hanker for a MKII?

Reading Mr Larkins latest offerings made me finally realise why, the two events that have led to this point:

The first happened when I was about 11 / 12 and a school friends mother sold her Stag and bought a 1976 diamond white MKII 2.0 JPS Capri - add to this the fact that said mates mother was tall, blonde and large chested (Indeed would now be called a Cougar I believe!) but, off course, this probably had nothing to do with it...

The second was the first vehicle I ever road tested on my own - a Signal Orange MKII 3.0s - all that freedom for at least 10 minutes...

So, I reckon that thanks to Larkin I've finally worked it out. Anyone else got any other suggestions or odd preferences of there own?

 fixed now, had it in a private set, so needed to mark it public. I did try to find the old caricature from "Larkin About", showing his head sticking out the cab window of some bus and couldn't. Obviously. :(
