Dull rear lens surface

Hi
I'm sure this is a problem of long standing.
The plastic rear lenses of my car are dull with over 40 years worth of cleaning and pollutants.
Obviously bright and shining when new in 1968, any idea on getting them back to 1968 levels?
I was thinking of perhaps a gloss lacquer?
Thanks

You'll find that a lacquer will peel off in patches after not-too-long and will look dreadful.
I've used polish before, with good results. Imagine that it's a painted surface, and treat it the same - i.e. cutting compound on deep scratches (or even 1500 wet and dry, used wet) and then increasingly fine polishes until you finish with a top-coat car body wax. A bit time-consuming but not too bad and it does get results.

Go to Halfords and buy a tube of compound for 3.99 Get a cloth and buff your lens to a perfect shine. You can also take them off and give them a wash with warm soapy water and a paintbrush.
