Following the recent annihilation of my Citroen C5 by a young man in a Peugeot 106, I decided to replace it with another classic, so I've just become the proud owner of a 1974 Rover 2200SC. There seem to be two specialist clubs, the Rover P6 Club and the P6 Rover Owners' Club. The latter seems larger and has a much more professional web site, but it was the former that fettled Danny's V8 at the NEC last year. I know there are a few P6 owners on this forum, so what does the panel think? I almost had a Harry Hill moment there " I quite like the Rover P6 Club, but I also like the P6 Rover Owners' Club, which is better? There's only one way to find out......."

I'm enjoying a mental picture of your torment What's more the money I got for the Citroen and cashing in the tax disc all but paid for it. Ziebarted from new and one elderly owner from 1978 to 2010. Needs a bit of work though, the timing chains are noisy and the driver's seat is full of holes. Management is not too happy though

The P6 is the last of the real Rovers before BL messed them up.

There are lots of different reasons for joining a club. The two mentioned will doubtless be stronger in some areas than others, so you'll need to decide what you actually want from club membership before you can choose which one is 'best'.
Personally, I live too far from any club meetings, have no desire to fill my shelves with magazines, already get pretty cheap classic insurance and find all the technical help I need on the classicroverforum so wouldn't benefit greatly from a club. But I do realise that this is rather a selfish attitude and that joining any club with affiliation to the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs is a good way of safeguarding our interests for the future.

why is there more than 1 club??

There was a difference of opinion,ideas back in the early 90's and a new club was born in 1993 giving rise to the 2 clubs.
Since then,around 2007/10 there was a split in one of the clubs,causing it to cease as a club and re-establish itself as a business rather than an actual club.
I will not get into the ins and outs of what happened,or the reasons why it happened,that is not for public broadcast.
Initially,I was a member of both clubs,and couldnt find a reason to just be in one,but my choice after the incident was to stay in The Rover P6 Club.
In my opinion it would be better for all concerned for there to be one really good P6 club,and until one closes for good I cannot see that happening.
It all depends what you want?,there is plenty of expertise and help on the Classic Rover Forum,and you dont have to be a member to attend any of the meets they hold.
Many meets are at established classic car shows anyway,by having a local group and gazebo display.

From my understanding the Rover P6 Club was formed more as a club for those driving their P6 regularly whereas the P6ROC is an "owners' club". I too left the P6ROC when it became a commercial venture but I understand it is doing very well...and good luck to them. The P6ROC has a very swish website and the club magazine is well respected. As a club they do all the usual club stuff such as attending major shows and organising regional shows too. The RP6C is a club run and funded by its members. Yes the website is not the best (it'll be getting a complete makeover soon) but the club magazine is excellent. It too does all the good club stuff such as attending major events and organising regional meets.

Like Pilkie I think ultimately there should be a single P6 club. It can be quite divisive and damaging having 2 clubs effectively competing with each other for which is best

There is a big RP6C national event being held at Petworth House in a few weeks time. It would certainly be worth you popping down there and having a chat with the committee of the Rover P6 Club whilst you're there.
