Citroen Brake Woes

Ay up!

Greetings from a newbie!

I have a problem with my 1993 Citroen Xantia. The o/s/f brake caliper has seized and is in need of replacement. Problem is, the caliper, carrier bracket, securing pin and retaining bolts halve all rusted into a single piece of metal to all intents and purposes. Several hours have been spent swinging ever larger hammers only to bend the pin punch.

Heat maw well help BUT would it be likely to damage the wheel bearings? Any assistance gratefully recieved.

I would try some heat myself- I don't think some careful blowtorch use or some mig on the boltheads is going to do too much damage...you have to get the things off anyway. If the caliper is scrap you could just use a grinder to cut it away. I bet you can't get the bleed nut undone- they were the bane of my life when I had a BX, stupidly tiny and fragile and always seized, and generally needed a bigger nut welding on to get them undone! This never seemed to affect the LHM or the seals, but I was always quick and it was either that or scrap a caliper quite often.
