£1,265, maybe slightly cheaper than a similar project over here, old Fords seem to have shot up in price recently.

It's a Mk1 not a Mk2, and with that grille I'd be surprised if it was a manual gearbox.

Hmm, I wondered that too, but perhaps Johnny Foreigner was offered the manual alternative in the 2.6 litre Cologne-"powered" (

) version of the Ghia?
The Essex V6 managed nicely with the obligatory automatic.
It still looks like a straight old thing, but wouldn't you think that someone would have
washed it for the photo? OK, so washing cars is a concept unknown over there but even so...
