Hi all.

I had been looking for a project car to play with this year,as the Rover P6V8 daily driver and TR6 are pretty much sorted with just tinkering to do.
I have just been given a 1960 2 door Morris 1000,grey with red leather int,2 owners 86k miles.
Off road since 95,but started up and moved about regularly.
Its very solid overall but does need some welding,tyres,exhaust,body and interior are overall good and original but scope to improve on.
My very first car was a 1960 2 door morris 1000.
Once its 100% mine and I have it home I will take a few pics,and can then give it a real good going over to make sure it will be worth me doing.

Lucky man! I hope you have cleaned off your mechano spanner as that seems to be the only tool needed to fix a minor

Sadly on further inspection with it on the ramp,there are quite a few very bad old welding repairs that are only just holding on,and underneath those is quite terminal!!!
I dont want to get into a weldathon,as overall it doesnt justify it,so it will be broken for spares to help keep its brothers and sisters on the road.
It runs sweet enough and the clutch and box work,as do all the electrics,all red leather seats are in V good but slightly scuffed condition,axle goes round and brakes were done not long before it was parked up.
I am in the process of negotiating a deal for a 1966 morris 1000 convertible and a Triumph Stag,both have been bodily sorted and resprayed,the morris has a new full leather interior,new hood and carpets,and new minilites with tyres.
I will not break the rusty morris till I have done the deal,and know exactly what bits I may need to finish the convertible.
Will update if/when the deal is done!

Morris 1000 conv and Stag both sold,but found out conv was a fake!.
And ive sold the morris 1000 I was given.
But I have bought a 1954 MG TF1500!
Imported back from California in 1996/7,UK owner never got round to starting on it.
A super solid chassis and great straight body,no rust at all apart from very minor dusty surface stuff.
Does need an engine,interior retrim and hood,repaint and ext chrome and electrics sorting!
I have a feeling that this may be a keeper project for this year!
Unless that is I get a really good offer for it!

Liking Casper by the way. He's a cool looking wee soul.

I took a no risk punt based on the fact the plate would be worth a few bob if MOT'd,and maybe there was a buyer out there who wanted to restore it!
And I didnt end up needing it for spares for the convertible I didnt buy!
I also gave the guy who gave it to me a very nice £££ evening out for him and the wife!!

ITS ARRIVED!!!



Spent the day of delivery getting to know the car.
Removed all 4 wheels and drums to inspect and free off brakes.
Totally rust free chassis and body, with only superficial dusty surface rust.
Body is all straight and the interior is a bit crispy.

Started the strip down.
Removed front and rear bumpers, front and rear wings, engine bay side panels, running boards, fuel tank, spare wheel carrier, doors, seats, carpets, interior trim panels.

A very trouble free strip down, only 2 nuts/bolts seized and they snapped easy and were of no importance overall.
Only rust found was in the corner of the fuel tank where water had settled over the years.
May be able to get it repaired, or I may have to buy a new or secondhand tank!

Didn’t do much today apart from roll it out and store all the parts taken off so far, that I had just placed back on the car pro-tem in the garage loft.
Looks like how you would expect to find a laid up and abandoned project!!
Makes it easier to roll out and play with for an hour or so when I get home from work.

Gave all the nuts and bolts I could find a good squirt of WD40 for good measure, ready for removing the body from the chassis on the weekend.

Pulled a muscle in my back on Tuesday , so I rested it for the week.

Sat 31/3/2012

Removed floor pans , rear side screen box and rest of vinyl trim.
Chassis is excellent underneath, as expected and hoped.
Got dashboard ready to come out, cut loom near bulkhead and took off eng bay electrics.
Had plenty of visitors today that slowed progress, but didn’t want to rush anyway, as I need to find out how it all comes apart, ready for putting back together!
Gave all the body mount nuts/bolts another dose of WD40.
If all goes well I hope to remove the body from the chassis tomorrow.

I finally got the body and chassis seperated this weekend.
Didnt come across any more than 6 stubborn fixings,all chopped with the cutting disc.
All the little tangs that hold brake pipes and loom in position are as solid as the day they were put on,and the brake pipes look like new under the minor dirt layer!
The old material,woven type loom covering is still in good nick,but as the wiring is 58 yrs old a new full loom will be fitted.
Now to strip,clean,rebush,repaint and refurb if req all the parts attached to the rolling chassis.
Once the chassis is sorted then I can drop in a complete running donor engine and box,as its easier to do any adaptations when the chassis is as it is.
So I am on the lookout for a 1970's MG Midget with a 1500 eng/box thats a good runner but rusty to buy and break.
Or a Triumph spit/dolly with a 1300 or 1500tc!!
