Its a bit odd to say the least re the article in the letters pages about Mr Greg Barnes's Mini, and his difficulty in trying to sort out the problem about someone trying to register the car again after it was stolen. I understand that the DVLA over there write to the previous owner if someone is attempting to re register a vehicle thats already registered.I would have thought that since they know that it has an existing owner,that the attempt to do so again is fraudulent.So why did they do it then? There is something missing here.

i thought that all the new controls with the v5 etc were to stamp out all that. as far as i can see its a system to screw money out of decent people & the police are just being lazy, as a real case would be complicated..sounds like the pc granada all over again..

No, there's not. The registered keeper isn't legally required to be the owner of a vehicle in the UK, see THESE THREADS.

December issue finally reached SW France.
I think your attempt to establish the remaining number of 'Mark' Jaguars is doomed and not just because PC still insists there is no difference between a Mk10/420G and a 420. Put them beside each other if you still don't believe it! A Mk10/420G is a Mk10 and a 420 is a Mk2. Also, I reckon it must be impossible to track the number of Mk2 2.4s that have vanished, then re-appeared as tarted-up 3.8s thanks to the likes of Vicarage, etc. And what about Daimler 2.5s? Nicest Mk2 in my opinion but I reckon a lot of them went the same way. But surely they should be counted as Mk2s one way or another?
I was also interested to see the advice to road test and fine tune against pinking was illustrated with a Wartburg 312. I think the person who can stop a 311/312 or a 353 (Knight) pinking is not yet born!

:oops: how did I miss those two threads? I should have dug more on the searching, thanks JPB.It seems bonkers about some ones name can be on the V5 form but still not the registered owner :? .I thought our system was silly, but the person on our VLC (equivalent of your V5) is the registered owner.

The issue with John Simpson's Alpine and the engine having been ruined, would the facility that performed the testing not be liable for the costs of the repairs? Or did you sign a form to exempt them from this?

Seems odd to rebuild all those cars over the winter for the condition 1 values to be the same as condition 3!

Finally picked up a copy over the weekend.
A great edition in the main. Nice to see the 4-cyl Rover P6 engine getting some column inches.

But the back page stuff about Porsches and Ferraris is a big turn-off for me, is he wishing he was working for a different magazine or something?

I had to sign a disclaimer saying I would not hold them responsible for damage to engine :( Lesson now learnt and I shall only take to someone who is sympathetic to older cars, i.e. don't get in it and take it up to 7000rpm!! muppets :x
