heres a couple of pics of my new motor, a 1962 hillman minx, imported into the country in 1984 from south africa.

Man, that's lovely! Some colours suit some cars really well and that colour is perfect for that car, IMHO.

I'm jealous - I had a '65 Minx many years ago and still miss it! I bought a MkII Cortina after that and it was nowhere near as comfy - or economical!

One slight mistake - you have a Super Minx, the Hillman version of the Vogue. My uncle had two Vogues (before he got divorced - I haven't seen him since about '66) and they were great cars.

Enjoy the car, it looks great - just remember some TLC!

got an annoying problem at the moment with hottish starting, think it could be fuel starvation going to insulate fuel pipe from pump to carb, as it passes next to rad hose and over top of engine.

One of the "killers" with my old Minx was that it would cut out when hot! However, I accidentally found out that it was because the air cleaner inlet was pointing forwards, getting cold air and freezing the carb!

I would suspect that, as you say, you are getting fuel vapourisation - more common with modern unleaded petrol - and lagging the line may help.

I reckon Hillmans (etc) are about the most underrated classic cars about - people rave over Oxfords and Cortinas etc, but you don't see enough of the pre-Arrow Rootes cars about.

That is a very tasty looking motor, and if the touch-ups over the years are the right colour I'd leave it exactly as it is. Why mess with a perfect example of a working classic?

Wow what a great car, i also have a Superminx, 1963, in the same clour scheme, only it looks nothing like yours. She needs a lot of TLC to get her there and i only hope i can get half as good as yours and i will be happy.
