I run this with TC carbs, Piper 270 cam, gas-flowed unleaded head and a 5 speed Type 9 conversion courtesy of http://www.5speedmarina.com.

The gearbox conversion was very straight forward, basically an adaptor plate between the Marina bellhousing and the Ford V6 type 9 gearbox and a little bit of machining on the bellhousing.

Heres a photo of the old girl take a few years back though she still looks the same today but this was the only photo on photobucket site I had that this site didnt crop out the car when I down loaded it. 1949 Rover P3
Also a photo of the Standard Ten before she came off the road for a rebuild (believe me the body work looks better than it was.

The Standard is not a common sight these days, certainly in these parts. My Grandmother had a nice new Standard Eight that she hated - more for its bright red paint than for the car itself. She swapped it for a Minx in the late 50's, which started a run of Hillman and Sunbeams.

The Rover was parked at the Lowestoft yacht club car park ready for the start of a charity run that the Lowestoft classic vehicle club do every year, this years run will start and end at the Royal Green on Lowestoft sea front culminating with a static car show on Sunday the 28th of August.
The standard is on Great Yarmouth sea front and was there as part of the mile of Triumph's run held each year in Norfolk. The Standard was "restored" (bodged) by some one back in the late eighties and lost is reg number at the same time it now has an age related number. At the momment its stripped down to a shell I've stripped and checked the engine but that was in good condition, when I orded the head gasket I found it was fitted with a later 1100cc Herald unit (thought it went to well for a 1000cc car maybe I should call it a Standard eleven now) I fitted a new water pump and did a de-coke, the rad was re-cored + lots of other odds and sods and it now also has a stainless steal exhaust, the brakes have been rebuilt with new cylinders all round and I've managed to get a pair of org all steel front wings in very good condition so its coming along as time and mostly funds permit.

Loving the Rover & the Standard. Little early for my memory...... Dad's 1st car was a Standard Vanguard Ph1, beetle back job. I only remember being able to stand up in the back! No 2 was a Ph3, remember that one well. SXB 142. Was followed by a Rover P5 3.0Ltr Coupe PMB 332D.

Greatly relieved to find the new forum. I really missed following the restoration stories on the original. Currently, Paul240480 gets my vote for most interesting posts. The twin sagas of 'Tank' and 'Zeb' make really awesome reading. Keep it up!!

Anyway, here's a pic of my 'toy'. It's a 1982 Jaguar Sovereign 4.2L that was imported into the States privately. I bought it from the original owner after he kept it for 11 years. He kept the bodywork and interior in beautiful condition. Unfortunately, the mechanical side of things degraded over the years as he started, early on, using a series of independent shops who were clueless about British iron. I wouldn't have minded but they charged the guy an arm and a leg for what they did. Anyway, it took me about three years of intermittent work to get it to where I wanted it to be.

Thanks for the compliment on the car Paul. You know, while I complain about the issues that were made by the previous' owner's mechanics, they did make this car affordable.

Looking forward to more of Tank and Zeb!
