I would say you need to move the adjuster on the outer cable towards the engine, in other words that would be slackening the inner cable a bit. Make a note of your starting point.

Thanks Harvey. I will move a 1/4 turn at a time and see what happens.

I think you might be there forever doing that.........
Try one whole turn at a time.

hi everyone
completed fitting new master cylinder. Took the car out for a small run up the road and was greeted first but a quiet large engage jolt. car moved off but i heard a thud comming from the front UJ. this was substantial at walking pace. I suspect that, as Harvey has pointed out, to be there is significant backlash in the propshaft UJs and as such I will be removing the propshaft for closer examination and replacement where necessary of the Ujs and centeral bearing.
However given the size of the thud at low speed I suspect significant wear and as such professional referbishment may be required. Any one know a good supplier of such services?
best regards
lee

You would be unlucky if there was anything more required than you can do yourself as far as the prop is concerned. Inspect all the uj's and replace as required, check any splines for wear, the same with the centre bearing. All of which you should be able to do yourself.
Check how much backlash there is in the diff by moving the prop flange both ways with the rear wheels stationary.

cheers harvey
I have done UJ's on landrover props and I have seen one eat into the flange housing before so i will extract the prop and take it from there.
I think i will replace the prop central bearing too and and mounting bushes while i am there as the cost seems reasonable.
I will get back to you with further progress
cheers
