You've missed my point.

Firstly it isn't FBHVC who don't regard my MG's as historic; that's the government's position. I have tried, on numerous occasions, to get the tax exemption rolling and my conclusion, having correspended with the government of Gordon Brown, was that his position was based on a personal whim, rather than on sound reasoning. I am told that the present government are sympathetic but in view of the deficit, the matter cannot be given priority. We shall see.

As regards whats in October, that's not in April, what's in April that's not in May :?: In 2007, I seem to remember we had a nice April and then it rained until August. However, there have been quite a few years, when we've not had a Summer but the Autumn has been rather nice. It's a lottery. The point is that holding Drive It Day in May, would not inconvenience exponents of April to September and would fit in with exponents of May to October. I don't know if there are any June to November people; if there are let's hear from them. If so, I'd say hold Drive It Day in June (Nice long evenings  ).

That'll suit those of us who choose to recycle proactively by not owning cars other than our old and/or interesting ones, but would be a bit of a bummer for the owners of summer trailer queens wouldn't it?
 Yeah, good plan. 8-)

I've been away for the week so I'm catching up on 'tinterweb.

I don't 'do' drive it day, and I don't think I ever have. I don't need an excuse to take my car out - if I want to, I do (and it's normally because it's a nice sunny day and the Jupe is dying to be driven round some nice country lanes, possibly with a pit-stop at a nice pub). If there's a deep and meaningful purpose behind drive it day I'm afraid it's lost on me as a classic car owner - and if the meaning is lost on an enthusiast I can't really see that it can be having much impact on Joe Public.

It might also be a good way of starting to kick the hackneyed motoring journos into touch.
Now that sounds like a good idea :) Mind you, we'd then no doubt get into arguments about what constitutes "British"... :D
