What utter bollocks! They do more good sat outside places where speeding could cause a death than parked in the central reservation on a busy dual carriageway where there has been no accident ever that I'm aware of, isn't a blackspot, but is a handy place to catch people as it's on the brow of a hill so they have you before you get chance to slow down.

You can teach a kid the green cross code till you're blue in the face, they can recite it word perfect, but all it takes is that one split second for them to be thinking about something else and, well it doesn't bear thinking about.

I would rather see these talivans sat in useful places like outside schools, playgrounds, hospitals old folks homes than in obvious money making spots like long straights, dual carriageways and on motorway bridges purely to get revenue than do what they are supposed to do and be a SAFETY camera (or is that just a bit too gullible?)

Just out of interest, if your child was run over outside a school by a motorist doing say 37 what would you say?

TBH during the times when the school kids are there you can't exceed the speed limit because there's too much traffic so it'd be a waste of time... Much better to make sure the parking of those poor little mums who's legs won't allow them to walk is legal... We have a primary school up the road from us where the parking at school time was so dreadful they put in some double yellows so that people could see to cross the road safely... And still some of these idiots even now park on the double yellows... If they really can't abide by the rules of the road (especially ones so simple and there for good reason) then as far as I'm concerned a temporary ban should be in order to make them think about it (and give them some much needed exercise!)...

You are completely WRONG. Cameras do not work outside sckools and playgrounds and there is no way that they ever could.

People including kids get run over because someone is NOT PAYING ATTENTION, and not because they are simply going faster than a posted limit.

As for your ridiculous and shameful attempt at emotional extortion I will give you my honest answer. I would first let the Police do their job to investigate the full circumstances of young Saddam being "run over". If he had not been paying attention then I would tell him that he has learned a very easy lesson the hard way - assuming of course that he is still around. I would apologise to the driver for my childs lack of attention on that ocassion, being mindful of the trauma that they would also be going through. No one sets out to run anyone over.

If it turns out to be the fault of the driver and they were driving perfectly legally apart from their speed, I would ask what caused then not to be paying attention at that time. Anyone can be distracted for a moment enough to have an accident - something as simple as a sneeze. I certainly would not rush headlong into condemning them for simply driving over the limit.

Were they drugged, drunk, uninsured, driving a stolen/unroadworthy car or doing 87 instead of 37 (we are assuming a 30 limit) then of course I would call for their head on a plate.

Is that enough "bollocks" for you?

Sounds quite reasonable.... "Common Sense" I think is the old fashioned term for it, rather like not decanting petrol in a kitchen with a naked flame nearby and then trying to blame someone else for it when it all goes wrong...

No, I'm afraid you are wrong, as proved recently when the police put a van outside a local school who's school crossing patrol was to be axed. They caught considerably more speeders there in a 30 limit and thanks to that the council decided to keep the crossing patrol on.
I don't believe you when you say you'd be quite happy for your child to be run over if a driver was speeding, I'd be baying for his blood, kinda glad you're not my dad really! Face the facts, a driver doing 40mph past a school at kicking out time will take far longer to stop than one doing 30, if that said driver is slowed to 30 by a scamera, then he has more chance of stopping before hitting a child, or if god forbid he did
the poor kid would stand a better chance of surviving being hit at 25-30mph than they would at 40. So tell me, how exactly does that NOT work?
