Have you found yourself a v8 donor?
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.

Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.

nope, just needed it clear for final welds and paint.

Just cleaning up the 1.8 for now, and then keep a look out for the v8

bit more today, got me a bit of access now the bay is cleared, so it was back to fabrication and modification

I forgot to take a pic, but the N/S basicly started off looikng like this

Image

Front panel on and showing the gap

Image

Plate ready to weld in

Image

crap pic, but welded in and the head light profile cut out panel fitted

Image

Wasnt at all happy with the fit of the wing to the front panel, and after a little measurment I couldnt do while the engine was in place, i found the wing mounting panel was 10mm higher on the N/S compared to the O/S, so I lowered it, now the wing lines up with the front panel, and it has also dramatically improved the wing to door gap.

Image

starting to get a bit late, and the normals are putting thier kids to bed, so I thought I'd call it a night with the grinder, but I thought I'd put a pic of the last top bit to weld on the landing panel....should strengthen up the front panel no end, and gives me summit to screw the grill to :)

this hunk or pig iron flew up to 140 mph with no issues at all, it won't need turbo's :)

just a modifed oil pump, a rear drop sump and a couple engine mounts :)

So judging by progress so far: about 10 minutes work and it'll be fitted ;)

Keep it up, that is an amazing beast!

Hi Bubs, great work!
The thoughts of electronics would completely put me off attempting what you plan to do. Is it a consideration, or is the BMW setup such that you can just screw the computery bits onto the Escort and plug them into the ciggy lighter?

I had a 4.2 A8 which I sold for peanuts because I thought it would be impossible to ever get the engine going if it were installed in another car. Now that I think about it, it was probably bought by a clever guy like you!

Edit: And that guy is probably busy ripping around in his 4.2L 4 wheel drive Mini!
