I should be more trusting of human nature, the taxi guy did eventually get back to me again to say that he'd accept an offer of around twice his asking price. Am I heading deep into Englandshire then? Nope, as far as I know only bricks and mortar would be sold on an "offers over" basis and he shouldn't have put such a low value on the thing if he doesn't want to flog it!

did you remain polite? if he rings again, could you find out what drug he is on, or is he just naturally stupid??

The interior of that CA is amazing! That ply lining must have added some refinement though, and IMHO it's a blank canvas for someone who wants to own a CA with bumpers attached but only has £15K to spend , or even a camper conversion, no windows so plenty of privacy to get dressed before the police arrive at the ddoggging venue.

Not sure what they mean about the straight sided screen though but? Does the seller mean that it's flat glass? As found in all CAs from 1952 to 1958..
Then there's the MO pickup, which would be nice with a subtle roof chop, some kicking rims and a bright orange & heliotrope 2-tone paint job. Innit.
As for the truck, oh hell aye! Nice, but GM were stretching the definition of the cabover concept with that, I prefer a COE to look like the Creeper's truck from the films:


As for taxi dude, I've given up on that odd person and have instead found a handful of specialist taxi sellers. The TTT appears to be highly prized as it's got that Toyota Diesel but there is a grey one on eBay at a mere £750 which is in Croydon but otherwise looks viable as a spruce up kind of project. It's the only one on there though, however a couple of specialists have immaculate examples with no faults and very comprehensive histories at a couple of grand apiece, I don't want a scruffy interior or GRP cracks that look as though they've hit a tree with their faces so as they seem so cheap, I may as well buy the best I can find. Yes, I'm warming to the Metrocab TTT as only a couple of days ago, I didn't know that these are in fact a standard production thing, so much as I'd have liked to own another four wheeled Reliant that isn't a Scimitar, kitten, Fox or Rebel, the TTT makes so much more sense from so many points of view that if I buy one of these, that's the type for me!
Here's the Croydon dwelling specimen, rough in places but maybe something to take a punt on and see how I get along with it before buying a really clean example that could make a very good car to live with:

The second from last time I was in a Saab of that style, I loved the way it felt but had some trouble bending enough to get into the thing then, more recently I had a chance to drive the same car, still owned by the colleague who'd owned it since new. Try as I might, there was no way I could fold myself in sufficient places to get in, so I took my modern thing instead. Nice though, and even the GM DNA in very late Saabs didn't seem to matter since they still had that certain something that made them stand out from the crowd.

No sainthood required here mate. Taxi bloke is simply a little strange, which isn't reason enough to get properly annoyed at him, though I have asked him to send me a wax effigy of himself that I can use as a pin cushion!

That van ticks the high seat + low floor box, but why on earth would anyone put the pedals way up there? Academic importance only as I'm almost sure that the thing would beach itself going over humps in the road, the ones in the village have won the local "nastiest humps in a village of between 80 and 800 residents in the Berwickshire and Northumberland areas" prize for the last five years straight. It's a hard fought accolade but one that the natives take ever so seriously.

I just watched that episode tonight, mainly because a) that woman on the show appears to be an absolutely lovely sort of lass and b) I wanted to see the motorcycle that Ant was working on. I must admit that when I saw that Land Rover on eBay recently, where it did rather well assuming that the bloke who gave £26000 for it wasn't the vendor at that time, in which case he's probably in therapy as I type.

But I have to admit that I thought it an awful shame to hack up such a straight, beautifully restored S2 vehicle. Worrying too, as I didn't see any breathing equipment being used when the welding was being done to the front springs' forward pickup points on a chassis that was clearly Galvanised. Whatever next, removing asbestos from an old close using a Dremel with a port shaping stone in its collet? Safety first people, safety first..
