In the workshop at present

Post pictures and stories about your cars both present and past. Also post up "blogs" on your restoration projects - the more pictures the better! Note: blog-type threads often get few replies, but are often read by many members, and provide interest and motivation to other enthusiasts so don't be disappointed if you don't get many replies.

It's a early (1947) Jowett Bradford van utility 6 light (6 x windows) - powered by a horizontal two cylinder 950cc engine, 3 speed gearbox

Exhumed after being stored in a damp garage for 35 years, its had a light mechanical overall by a fellow Jowett member, engine ran fine with fresh points, plugs, coil, battery & fuel, brake overall, new radiator & hoses, through check over & grease up, a little re-shimming on king pins & track rods and it is on the button. Body is steel panels to the front with aluminium over a ash frame to the rear, roof is composite being part steel panels, ash frame and covered by fabric - this has suffered to the point that it no longer exists - I have all the bodywork & paint to sort along with the roof and interior trim - plan is to get the roof prepped / sorted first - so I spent today stripping the drain channels, steel roof sections along with the rear doors to expose the frame in order to determine what sections of the frame require attention

Spare wheel carrier is toast and they are not available so I will have to make a new one, managed to source a good pair of rear doors and a usable section for the rear of the roof above the doors - rot has crept into most of the panels but everything should be repairable, so now I can order some ash lengths and sort the frame out along with the roof lathes, I need to also order some felt wadding to act as the interlayer between the frame and roof covering - the steel roof sections will require some fabrication to the perforated outer edges - there are random minor holes in the rest of the panel but with the panels only providing the shape I am not too worried about this

Wow, that's an unexpected vehicle even for a serial Jowett botherer like you. Look forward to reading progress on this one.

Made a start on the roof panels - repairs to the edges by joggling / spot welding new sections in - this now needs a little shrinking to the lower edge before I commence repairs on the rear of the panel - I will keep having an hour or so on these as time permits but now awaiting for several other parts from various corners of the country
