after a lot of faffing about ive finally got a replacement... mine was an import so not the same as the standard ones, fitted in under an hour!! im giving it a test run later..

Quick suggestion, you drive it back to an English relative, have a quick holiday and sell it over here.

there is no english mot or tax on it..... it does have the french ct & is fully insured but still on english plates... do you know anyone who does an mot by post?

Just a thought, Rich. The MR2's alternator doesn't by any chance have an external regulator does it?

I suspect it has a fusible link which has blown. I have blown the one in my range once which lead to a replacement alternator and lots of swearing.

Have you checked to see if there is any voltage getting to the exciter? if that is fused, it may have blown.
