Please tell me that these aren't stolen from fresh graves, that would be risky at the moment, what with Covid and all that!

They are probably out of a sixteenth century plague pit. Or maybe it was late eighteenth century, when chopping people's heads off was the French national sport.

Scroll down from that corduroy covered phone to the bakerlight one, priced at forty pounds. That's exactly the same as our land line phone, bar the colour, our's is red. It was issued to us in 1968 by the GPO, phones and post were one nationalised conglomerate back then. When privatisation came along I asked if we could keep the phone. I was told that I had to buy it, price: one pound. It still works, still in use, but we have a modern phone too so that we can see the phone number of incoming calls. A finger dial phone is useless for voice menus too. You can't press one for the money, two for the show.

True, GHT, but many buyers of Bakelite stuff, whether that be telephones, Smith Sectric clocks or radio sets, only need a classic design for the show, not the go. My only remaining ancient blower has been fitted with Bluetooth technology and can answer calls from either of the other modern 'phones in the house. 99% of the time, it's just sitting up in the attic doing nothing.
I'd grab that black one, though that type is still as common as they come, but the velvety one posted by Rich has a spare earpiece on it. I've seen that idea in tat shops before now but can I remember what the extra cup is doing there?

We have an old red phone.. still working ( at my parents place) i bought it in whitby ..

The extra earpiece is called a watch receiver, they used to be common in offices to allow a second person to listen in on the call. GHT, there used to be keypads you could place over the mouthpiece to enable tone dialling for voice menus or for the remote control of answering machines on a dial phone. Push button phones have rendered these unnecessary but they can still be picked up occasionally.
