For a decent used car with low mileage and lots of history, the Carina seems cheap, but doors for these are several hundred pounds each from Toyota and the paint and prep wouldn't be cheap either. That needs a good home with someone who can do the job, has access to a flatliner or a used door and wants to use it daily - they're good for that.
:D
That Audi seems dear for something that needs to be recommissioned, but the VAG fans will no doubt be able to do something with it. I'm thinking maybe some moon discs to make sure that the brakes overheat, a set of cut springs, some paint that looks like rust, a roofrack filled with junk that'll be annoyingly noisy and cost a fortune in extra fuel, a roofcloth made from old underpants (extra concours points for historic skidmarks) and other trappings of German-ness.

Wow! That's eerily similar to the "after" image that my mind came up with, to illustrate how I see the future of the barn find eBay car.
Thank you, GHT, for having the ability to see so accurately the image files in the extended storage partition of my grey matter.

Rich, I'm posting this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/flying-taxi-h ... 2467122941 so that you don't have to!

OK, so I clicked on the listing when I could have carried on looking at the less, erm, "distressed" classic tin on the 'bay without having felt the urge to order myself a large vat of GHT's favourite brand of eye bleach, but the title "Flying Taxi" was full with promise.

That purple Austin Somerset, how come, when it's a 1953 model, it has an A suffix? The suffix and prefix number plate system didn't start until 1963, by which time the Somerset production had long since ceased.
