It always feels good when you get that bit of paper saying you can enjoy your toy for another year (even better when you expect a fail but get through anyway)
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

I sort of left out the word 'eventually'.
Steering column loose and parking brake ineffective.
But sorted and back for retest by end of same day.

Yesterday I refitted the recalibrated speedo into the V8. The cooling fans had ceased to work and I traced the fault to a dirty earth connection. My resistance meter didn't show up the fault (The needle went all the way across) and I had to trace it by simply establishing that the fans and the relay worked and then bypassing just the earth circuit. Are there resistance meters, that are sensitive enough to show up a dodgey earth connection

Rules exist for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men.

I have had the same problem with lighting circuits before. They test OK but as soon as a substantial current tries to pass through, they fail.

Ha! We all joke about letting the smoke out of the wires but I never knew you could buy refills - what a great ideaTerryG wrote: You need one of these:

Aaand the disco now has replacement front pads. A bit whiffy to start with but they seem to have calmed down somewhat now.
First time I've done 4 pot calipers. Not as bad as it could have been

Landrovers and Welding go together like Bread and Butter. And in the wet they are about as structurally sound

And this weekend changed out the oil, best part of a gallon and a half of the stuff.
Hint: When removing the oil filter, cut the bottom off a 2 pint plastic milk bottle (Make sure the cap is still on) and pop it over the filter so that when you unscrew it all the oil that spills out is caught in the bottle.
You then have an easy way to manouvre it out over the front axle without wearing a layer of hot rancid oil. Empty it into the oil bucket, dispose of responsibly, and fit a new filter.
It doesn't have to be a milk bottle, a suitably sized soft drink bottle would do just as well. Hint the milk bottles from ASDA and Morrisons are really thin. Which means you can grip the filter easily through the sides of the bottle.

Re: Today I have been ?????????????? to my classic
Managed to get the 1966 Herald 1200, MPC 868D, through the MOT today with no advisories. The last Mot was in 2011 and immediately after it passing I took it off the road to do the things advised, new brakes, pipes, fuel pipe, fuel leak, carb rebuild, track rod ends and nsf outrigger. Unfortunately it got pushed to the back of the workshop and not done so I decided to finish it meaning since last MOT in 2011 and the new one it covered 23 miles lol.
Need to get the tracking done today and fit a new wing mirror as cracked the one yesterday on way to MOT.
It drove lovely. Id missed it.
Moved the ex-mod Land Rover 109 FFR to my workshop in its place so it can have a few small bits done to it and then sold.
Looked at the 1968 Herald Con (in Bits) 1976 Hillman Imp (needs loads of work) 1962 Herald 1200 Coupe (needs even more than the Imp) Mini City (needs more than the Herald Coupe) 1974 Morris Marina (needs recommissioning) Reliant Kitten (finish bodywork) and Reliant Fox (recommissioning) and thought maybe I need to stop buying crap cars.
MG Midget 1500 working but needs a new hood.
Also have a 2006 Megane Scenic DCi that needs the clutch doing, a 1994 polo Coupe that needs tidying, a 2002 Corsa needing an engine, a 1998 Kangoo van needing diesel pump and a 1989 Mazda mx5 (chassis number 249) needing an engine.
Do however have a lovely 2000 Mx5 for sale and a 1999 Skoda Felicia for sale
The Saab 95, Suzuki Alto, Land Rover Freelander and 2006 MX5 are all working as always!
Definitely have too many cars. Also got a 2007 Citroen C2 Loeb that is in my garden and cant get out as I've put loads of rubbish in front of it lol
I feel so much better for getting that all off my chest!!!!!!!!
