Hmm, value and price aren't always the same thing and there's one born every minute after all so, GHT, be glad that you weren't that one on this occasion. Another will come along and maybe its price will be closer to its value, leaving you some spare monies to throw at the car when its roots start to show.
Meanwhile, if it's reliability and economy that you want from your show car, how about this amazing demonstration of one Cataloy-spreader's skill:

I know, I'm heading for the cloakroom right now..

But I actually like the modified Combo and, if it had come with the Toyota-supplied MMT option (and in my size), I'd be having a bid at it...

It's too cheap John, how can it be a good one if it's not priced out of the stratosphere?

I think you misunderstood where I was coming from John - the car for it's quality was under priced and marketed in the right place was every inch of a £10k car

OK, I must have got the wrong end of the stick there, £10k seemed a lot as a valuation when decent MGBs can be had for a significantly lower amount that allows plenty of spare wonga for the one way train, bus or donkey ride in a northerly direction to pick up a beauty like this: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C858128 which is a more original car and, being a rubber bumper one, easier for the older driver to use thanks to the raised ride height. ;)

That Minor pickup is more typical of usual asking prices for such clean commercials whose original, steel rear bodies are present and which have been given better brakes (though it's still on front drums in one of the images) and are useable. But even that isn't as good as the seller would like to think it is, given that the pickup bed is missing its lashing hooks for the rear cover and appears to have had copper brake pipes fitted which limits its appeal somewhat as it couldn't be exported to the USA, Canada, NZ or Belgium, to name a handful of potential export markets that they're missing out on by dint of their desire to save time and effort by not opting for stainless steel or cupro-nickel instead. Such tightwad-like inattention to detail is annoying in a car whose perceived value is into five figures.

John - really good well restored B's are now pitched at £10 - £20K with classic MG specialists - has for the rubber bumpered yellow one that you posted - personally I would not touch it unless it was half the money that it's advertised at - the doors are mismatched on paint shade for starters and rubber bumper variants are sub 30% + under the value of a genuine chrome bumper original B

Hmm, the doors looked ok at first glance, but staring at them for a few minutes does indeed make me think that possibly, the transparent nature of yellow is the problem here and that these are replaced or repainted doors whose primer is darker than that under the rest of the [Inca, or Mimosa?] topcoat but the sills look straight and have seams in the right places and it's at least sensibly priced where some rubber bumper models in LHD, described as in need of rebuilding, are being touted around the web at only a few quid less.
I guess that I simply wouldn't buy an older car from a marque specialist any more than I'd ever again buy a new one from a retail dealership but at least retail prices are available for the new stuff so new buyers have a fairly strict framework within which to plan their expenditure.
Lastly, the rubber bumpered Bs are blessed with the final development of the B engine, late ones are so much sweeter than they had ever been before and that, plus the ability of the rubbery bumpers and their steel substrate to fend off supermarket car park knocks that could bruise a steel bumper quite noticeably, are why these cars have their fans too, probably folk who are far too busy driving and gloating about how little they paid to think about slight details like slightly inconsistent paintwork.

 TWENTY FOUR QUID for a replacement tab lighter element which happens to have some comedy value? OK, I'm in, just as long as I can get the in-car washing line and the lawn-style carpet set to go with it & save on the postage. :P
