Mornington Crescent, anyone?

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Nope :) I was very real, rather rich, and cos I'm feeling generous I'm going to say that you almost certainly will have heard, and almost as certainly spoken my name as an exclamation.

Almost Luxo, but, he didn't die in the last 113 years, and my B didn't actually found the Herald, though he did run it at one time.

Also the 1795 James Gordon Bennett (Sr) didn't get so drunk as he mistook the fireplace / Grand Piano at his future Father in laws house as a lavatory causing the end of his engagement.

However, you did guess the correct name, right family, just the wrong generation, and so I believe I can take a unilateral decision to jump ship and declare you IT

I was of course James Gordon Bennett (Jr) born 1841, founder of the Gordon Bennett cups for motoring, yachting and ballooning.

Yes I am, but perhaps not the thing I'm best known for. My father was though!

Yes I think he did, in rather a prestige way! Amongst other things.....
