breakdown truck

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Hmm, I'd want it on the road and ready to use at that sort of cash.
But the seller may not understand eBay's legal status, which is no more binding than a postcard in the village shop window (in England & Wales). eBay is a venue, not a 'real' auction!
I'm not in the habit of bidding for stuff and failing to follow through, it does have a moral element after all, but this bollocks would put me off as it's an attitude that only serves to suggest that the bidder should be bound to buy, even if the item is a complete turd! I'm sure the van is lovely, but I'd go at it via the parallel listing on Gumtree, which doesn't carry the same BS:
THIS IS AN AUCTION AND PLACING A BID IS LEGALLY BINDING AS IT WOULD BE AT ANY AUCTION !
I hate that sort of borst!

Meanwhile, here's something completely worth its money, IMHO:

It even has the steering wheel in the correct place, and the brake pedal if you're really old! ;)
Is that a Canadian car or an original UK market one? Either way, imagine taking that through your local KFC and making the serving bot wait while you remove the sidescreens to pay.
Nice.

The market for small vans has gone daft - I'd wager a good bet that 99.9% of the bidders have not been to see the van in the first place and are purely bidding from the description, for something that still needs a lump of money and time spending on it - by the way the bragging rights that it's never had any paintwork bar the odd touch up - must have been a 6" touch up brush then because the nearside front wing is a different shade / variant than the rest of the van and that's quite a large area of red lead on the lower section of the drivers doors - I would like to bet there is filler hidden under it - it would be fairly priced at circa £5k but the classic van market is high on some type of drug

Bedford prices seem to be pretty variable, depending upon which way the wind is blowing...

Certainly looks well restored, could someone who has to pay someone to restore a similar vehicle to a similar standard save a significant amount when this is all sorted and ready to show or put to work? I still can't quite get my head around the fact that a D reg vehicle is now into its thirties, seems minutes ago that CFs were almost as frequently seen as the Transit.

Then there's one that can carry your impulse-bought old piles of aged steel home, who wouldn't enjoy a breakdown truck, especially an older one? I hear that one of the classic car forums has a thread devoted to such things! :o

I'm thinking that that one has to be cheap enough. Plus it's already been subjected to one change of rear body so sure & nobody would mind if someone found a nice old caravan and fitted that to its chassis?

Then, cheered up after seeing these CFs, I found a Transit in the interests of balance and impartiality. OK, so it's not perfect but then the seller makes no claims for its body condition, only for its reliability and who couldn't feel at least a wee bit turned on by maroon velvet cushions?..

I once owned a very poor example of VW's rear engined, air cooled take on the camper van theme, that Transit is exactly what I should have bought instead! Trouble is, these are now heading almost into VW price territory.

Maroon velvet cushions? Are you sure that it's not a mobile knocking shop?
Here's a Bedford bus that won't set you back over half a million dollars.
