No as now you have pointed it out I've had a laugh too :)
Understeer: when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer: when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower: how fast you hit the wall.
Torque: how far you take the wall with you.

I noticed what appeared to be flimsy straps. Surely the guy didn't put the straps across the body. It would damage the paint and possibly dent the body.

I never ever not never no how recover cars I get a man in. It costs money. Car recovery is a specalist job. Any accidents and he has full insurance. I have AA card should my own car go wrong. Some trailers being used as car trailers aren't actually car trailers.

Flying Spares I think have a new un used body shell in primer. The total cost will be a whole lot more than buying another £10k Rolls -Royce Shudder. And shudder you will when you are paying for the parts.

I had a Micra, good car. Recommended. Ideal around town.

It dosnt say which Rav 4 it was but assuming it was the top model it would only have an 85% match of 1500 kg so a trailer with a roller on it was always going to end in tears.
I'm assuming that if you exceed the manufacturers max tow limit ( which he certainly would have been as the max tow of a Rav 4 is, I believe, 1500) then surely he his breaking the law and would have rendered his vehicle insurance as void.
I believe some of the larger 4x4's such as land/ range rovers, Mitsubishi's etc have max tow's of 3500 so should be OK but I can't imagine many other vehicles being up to the job. My Honda CRV is rated at 2000 max tow so would be OK with a trailer and average saloon but to be honest I would have second thoughts and opt for the use of a flat bed.

When I worked in Motorsport we were not allowed to tow trailers with rally cars on with a car ( unsure whether this was company policy or a legal/ insurance thing) we used German spec left hand drive VW LT vans with four wheel drive and 2.5 litre engines, as the vans were also loaded with the best part of half a car in spare parts ( couple of gearbox's, two sets of suspension, couple sub-frames, a dozen wheels and tyres, tools etc etc) they weighed in at quite a hefty premium so the tow was really very smooth, when I think of the thousands of miles in some quite inhospitable countries that we drove in I can't recall there ever being a monumental catastrophe.

.............also is it urban myth or am I right in thinking that if a roller can't move under its own power it has to be covered either inside a boxed trailer of have a cover over it? Probably a load of b%#^*#$s but I can remember being told it more than once

I was assuming they used the "tie down points" fitted to the underbody. I've seen it before when people are recovering land rovers that they use the recovery hitches to lash them down and people wonder why 5 miles down the road, the LR is AWOL.

I should think the 3rd party bit of the insurance is ok but any damage to Rav 4 he won't be covered.
I know nothing about Rav 4s. 1500 kg sounds a lot for such a car.

My trailer is 250kg max gross. Even then I don't go above 40 mph.

Minxy.

It absolutely rubbish about recovering Rollers under cover.
The owner of the car can do as they please. It's their car not Rolls Royces. If they want a gypsy to paint the car in scrolls and other artwork then its up to the owner. If a customer asked RR to paint the car pink with green spots RR will do exactly that. Rolls Royce are about as interested in the older Rollers as any other maker in their older models which is not a lot.

It takes 3 days for one guy to make a Rolls-Royce radiator shell. The other guys make 5 a day.

I went to the Jag factory and this guy was spraying varnish on wood. It looked superb. The guy was quite young and it was his first week and he's never done anything like this before.

The myths surrounding Rollers are myths and simply untrue.

One thing is true though Crewe and Goodwood are very protective of their logos. They will come down on infringements like a ton of bricks. A substitute for the a broken engine is a GM small block. A company made rocker covers with Rolls Royce written on them. They got sued and of course lost.
