Clarkson suspended

Got something to say, but it's not classic related? Here's the place to discuss. Also includes the once ever-so-popular word association thread... (although we've had to start from scratch with it - sorry!)

Yep, that's the usual corporation response. Back in the late '80s you'd have received a good few LVs for that non committal, inoffensive non answer.

The story about the helicopter - and Jeremy's not being aboard - was reported in the Guardian on the day that the story first broke, it was also in the Daily Mail, the Torygraph, the Herald, the Record and the Indy so, apart from a few of the red top Andrex alternatives, it appeared in most of the nationals.

It would be nice to think that Top Gear might become a motoring programme, with Clarkson gone but I doubt it.

As I am moderating on another forum (and there is a spat betwwen experts and someone who knows better), I am at the computer again. While checking that forum, I was watching some early "new" TG on Dave. While Clarkson was being the usual "outrageous" character, it was noticeable how much less obnoxious he was and that he was actually quite funny!

With regards the large vote for him - I think one BeeB man said what I thought - people like the programme as it was and think it will be boring without him. They don't care how he behaved - so long as TG stayed the same, he could do anything.

I just wonder how he would do on other mainstream channels - I always found that commercial telly was more careful with their "edgy" stuff.

That article wrote:Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond have presented Top Gear together for 12 years
Really? James May was a latecomer to TG, replacing Jason Dawe who used to present that interesting classic car buying show - whose name escapes me - with Suzi (ex Gadget Show, Moto GP, F1, etc.) Perry. OK, so Mr Dawe bailed after the first (not the third as that statement implied) series of "new" Top Gear but how hard would it be for a journalist - from either side of the house - to get their facts in order?

Steve Berry was talking about that last night - he reckons that commercial TV car shows are tame because the TV company bosses are afraid to have their presenters upset their second biggest advertisers, the car companies.
