But did they go looking for a particular car, i.e. a Porsche, or did they trawl dvla for some variation on the plate and then buy that particular car, whatever it was? Either way, I suspect they planted the story in the argie press and it just went wrong.

I still wonder why they bought cars here and not from the country they are going to visit as they usually do (OK the Middle East trip used UK-registered stuff). They would have hardly raised an eyebrow in local cars - but I suspect that any UK-registered vehicle would have attracted attention. I'm sure that there are a few V8 cars of Germanic origin in South America...

Sure & not even that ** ******** ********* **** from the book of faces - known for his supernal ability to criticise TV shows he hasn't so much as looked at - could argue that the presenters didn't look genuinely afraid of that bunch of indigenous (and some imported from the USA) hooligans.
Shame the locally assembled A-series Citroen didn't get to see any action though, we haven't seen the spare player coming on since the Marina took over from May's Capri in the Winter Sports Christmas special a few years back.
I found this most recent effort much more enjoyable than the last two rather disappointing special episodes, with far fewer of the puerile attempts at slapstick, very little in the way of nob gags and seldom even the hint of TV jeopardy.
Could it be the start of a much less funny but ultimately more informative direction for the show? A comeback for William Woollard perhaps? Gawd, I hope not. Other mythological supreme beings and deluded hippies are available.

I thought it was pretty good. Ignoring the rock throwing mob and them having to abandon their cars to be trashed by locals. I'm assuming the reason various jokes made no sense at all to me is because I haven't watched Butch Cassidy.
The specials (excluding the india one) have all been worth watching, it's the actual series that is getting thin.

I have recorded it but haven't bothered to watch it! The Beeb would be better off spending license money on the 'proper' series and having more of them instead of these specials. It just gives Clarkson an opportunity to be a bigger knob than he already is. I have met the bloke and I thought he was an arrogant twat! A car programme presenter who knows **** all about cars. I'm amazed that James May hasn't left. It's got to be a cash thing.




ps. Very few TV programmes are real. I only know of one.

The cars weren't trashed by locals, they're currently sitting behind an argie police station, according to several photos currently doing the internet rounds.... I'm very surprised that the 'angry mob' didn't torch them.
