I have answered my original question about making a bar that I can set my torque wrench a foot away from the nut to be tightened will it halve the torque setting on the wrench?
The answer is yes it will. I failed to undo the hub nut on the Maxi with an 18" breaker bar so I made a spanner from a lorry wheel nut spanner and a shaft from an old steering box . Put it on the Maxi and the nuts almost dropped off. When I put the hub back together I tightened the hub nut to 100ftlbs, then welded an old socket onto the bar a foot away from the centre of the nut to be tightened. I then slackened my torque wrench back to 45 lbs and tried it. It cracked and I tightened the torque wrench up and when I set it to 50lbs it just moved the nut slightly before cracking. Trying the nut after with my "spanner" it was in Luxos words F-----g tight. Job done and I can now torque nuts up to 200lb.
