I have just got back from dropping off my range to have it's suspension bushes replaced and in the garage was a g plate micra having some welding done!
No attractive young ladies in site though, just Dave being rude about gearboxes.

Do not get a MIDGET unless you want a car with all new panels, but doors that wont close.

MGB GT would be great to learn on, but they dont come cheap anymore.

A bit left-field, but how about a van or pickup? VW Caddy, Citroen C15, Maestro van, or whatever. If you can find a cheap one, it can only appreciate. And you won't have to worry so much about setting fire to the carpets.
